The West Kowloon Site in the HKSAR provides the most panoramic view of the Hong Kong harbour, Lantau Island and a spectacular sunset. As one of the few remaining undeveloped waterfront areas in the central city, it is too valuable a public asset to be auctioned off for speculative development.
In complement with a future cultural district, a plan to develop the West Kowloon corridor into a green park is the most sensible and best long term interest for the legacy of the Hong Kong people. An investment in a world-class urban green park will provide many returns for the environment, public health, social benefit and tourism.
Hong Kong Alternatives believes a sensible and sustainable solution for the harbourfront is necessary to ensure the future health and prosperity of the city and people..
HK Alternatives actively supports ‘Pearl for the World’ a joint project by HKU-ICEE (Hong Kong University – Initiative on Clean Energy & Environment). This project proposes a sustainable development framework for the HKSAR over the next 50 years. It includes a substantial increase in urban parkland and a series of interconnected green links. A system of flagship parks forms the centre of the scheme, including a marine-land park at the West Kowloon Site. Please visit icee.hku.hk for more information.
The ‘Pearl for the World’ exhibition continues from December 30 through January 2nd at Hong Kong University.  This open exhibition is sponsored by the HKU Department of Architecture, and features the research and design for a ‘Sustainable Green Parks City’ for HKSAR.
The comprehensive exhibition encompasses the ongoing appeal by Hong Kong Alternatives for an integrated [...]
